Obesity is one of the main contemporary public health challenges, associated with several metabolic and cardiovascular comorbidities. Regular physical activity is widely recognized as an effective strategy for both reducing and maintaining adequate body composition. This study aimed to analyze the contributions of regular physical activity in combating obesity in adults. The methodology consisted of a qualitative, exploratory, and descriptive study, with a bibliographic survey in the SciELO, PubMed, LILACS, BVS Brasil, and Google Scholar databases, considering articles published between 2019 and 2024 in Portuguese, English, and Spanish. The selected studies indicate that aerobic, resistance, or combined physical exercise programs promote a significant reduction in fat mass, improvement in body mass index (BMI), and, in some cases, an increase in lean mass. It is concluded that regular physical training is an effective and accessible non-pharmacological intervention for improving body composition in adults with obesity and should be encouraged on an ongoing basis and supervised by qualified professionals.
