Analysis reveals varying resilience in construction projects, suggesting tailored improvements for better sustainability.
Purpose Prefabricated building (PB) offers significant advantages due to factory-based production and on-site assembly, distinguishing them from traditional construction methods. However, it also brings resilience issues. This study aims to develop a scientifically grounded evaluation indicator system to assess and enhance the resilience of the PB industry chain, ensuring smoother project delivery and promoting sustainable development within the construction sector. Design/methodology/approach A resilience evaluation indicator system for the PB industry chain is developed based on the PSR (pressure-state-response) model is constructed. Principal component analysis and the genetic algorithm (GA) are employed to refine and weight the indicators effectively. The PROMETHEE II method is applied to evaluate and rank the resilience of different construction projects through actual case studies. Findings The study demonstrated that the evaluation indicator system effectively assesses the resilience of the PB industry chain. Empirical results show that resilience varies across projects, suggesting the need for tailored improvements. Governments should enhance policy frameworks and promote collaborative mechanisms to address cost and technical barriers within the PB. Originality/value By constructing a novel evaluation system, this paper provides a comprehensive examination of the resilience of the PB industry chain. Aiding stakeholders in adapting to market changes and enhancing project delivery and sustainability in the construction sector.
