The nucleophilic difluoromethylation of carbonyl compounds with Me3SiCF2H reveals improved yields in various imides, suggesting a new moisture-tolerant approach.
The direct nucleophilic difluoromethylation of carbonyl compounds with Me₃SiCF₂H initiated by Ag₂O/TBAI at room temperature is described. The moisture-tolerant method enables difluoromethylation of a broad range of carbonyl compounds (including aldehydes, ketones, and imides), affording structurally diverse α-CF₂H carbinols in good to excellent yields. Control experiments confirmed that in situ-generated TBAOH is the actual initiator for Me₃SiCF₂H activation.
