Five triterpenoid glucosides from Lantana camara inhibit nitric oxide production in macrophages, indicating potential therapeutic benefits.
Five new euphane-type triterpenoid glucosides namely lantaeuphanosides A-E (1-5) along with homoplantaginin (6), 6-O-methyl-scutellarin (7), and isoverbascoside (8) were isolated from the methanol extract of the leaves of Lantana camara Linn. Their structures were elucidated by HRESI-MS, 1D, and 2D NMR data analysis. The inhibitory effects of 1-5 on nitric oxide production induced by lipopolysaccharide in RAW264.7 cells were evaluated. Moderate inhibition was found for lantaeuphanosides D (4) and E (5) with IC₅₀ values of 51.59 ± 5.68 and 29.19 ± 2.25 μM, respectively.
