Observational analysis illustrates aromaticity changes in a dual-BN dihydrophenazine switch, suggesting a response to multiple stimuli.
Designing π systems that respond to several stimuli or switch among multiple conformations remains challenging. A diborylated dihydrophenazine, in which aromaticity changes are coupled to internal B─N rotations, operates as a multistate optical switch addressable by heat, force, light, or redox inputs. The system exemplifies a new route to π‐conjugated multimodal switches, as reported by Tian et al. ( https://doi.org/10.1002/anov.70012 ).
