Analysis demonstrates how particle shape affects permeability in porous media, indicating geometric parameters play a crucial role.
By analyzing the effects of soil particle size, shape, and arrangement on fluid flow through soil pores, we establish an effective pore size model for rectangular cross-sectional pores and derive a single-pore flow expression for rough-walled channels. Construction of the mathematical model for the permeability coefficient of porous media is based on fractal theory. The accuracy is verified by numerical simulation and experimental verification. The results show that the influence of particle shape on permeability coefficient is higher than that of channel diameter and roughness. When the particle shape is fixed, the increase in roughness reduces the permeability coefficient, but the effect is significantly weakened with the increase in channel diameter. The influence of channel diameter on permeability coefficient decreases with the increase in relative roughness. The study reveals the coupling mechanism of geometric parameters on permeability characteristics in porous media.
