Analysis shows enhanced mechanical properties and durability in jute-sisal hybrid composites, indicating biochar's role in improving stability and moisture resistance.
Natural fiber-reinforced hybrid composites offer a sustainable alternative to synthetic materials due to theirbiodegradability, cost-effectiveness, and good mechanical properties. This study investigates jute-sisal hybrid compositessupplemented with filler made of coconut shell biochar and fibers that have been alkali-treated. Alkali treatment improvesfiber-matrix bonding by enhancing surface roughness and reducing impurities. Coconut shell biochar improves thermalstability, strength, and moisture resistance. The study included comprehensive testing of the composites, focusing on theirthermal behavior, moisture absorption, and mechanical strength indicators—tensile, flexural, and impact. Results showedimproved interfacial adhesion and mechanical properties due to alkali treatment, while biochar increased durability andthermal resistance. These bio-based composites are promising for applications in automotive parts, lightweight structures, and sustainable packaging, promoting the development of environmentally friendly polymer materials.
