Analysis shows increased funding and emphasis on article volume in Chinese journals, suggesting shifts in strategic focus.
This study analyzes the English journal funding in the second phase of China Sci-Tech Journal Excellence Action Plan (CJEAP-II), utilizing InCites data. Compared to CJEAP-I, it supports more journals with increased funding. Selected journals exhibit high citation metrics but lower article volume than top international peers and a high proportion of Chinese authors. CJEAP-II emphasizes article volume and the dominant power of journal running. While funding remains limited for established journals, the foundation from CJEAP-I and significant research investment positions Chinese sci-tech journals for rapid development to bolster national scientific advancement.
