Analysis reveals a shift in foreign direct investment towards natural resources in Central Asia, highlighting changes from traditional investors.
The article analyzes international statistics on the inflow of foreign direct investment to Central Asian countries. Based on a comparison of the data from UNCTAD and the IMF, discrepancies in the indicators of investments coming to the Central Asian republics are identified. The study reveals that until recently, most of the foreign investments in the Central Asian region were made in natural resource extraction. However, this trend is gradually changing. An analysis of incoming foreign direct investment in the region showed that in addition to Chinese companies, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates have been actively investing in the economies of the Central Asian republics in recent years.
