Analysis reveals absurdism in Chinese Avantgarde art, highlighting existential themes from a Western perspective.
The standard argument for absurd includes a discrepancy between expectations and reality and becomes an unavoidable perception if regarded sub specie aeternitatis. Admittedly, after the fundamental doubt has begun to seek ultimate justification, a human being’s rational impulse remains. This article aims to rephrase the avantgardist experimentation as an expression of Hegelian “unhappy consciousness” due to the uncanny China-West encounter. The final representation is a domestic theatre of the absurd.
