Case report reveals epithelioid sarcoma presenting as prurigo nodularis in an elderly woman, indicating diagnostic challenges.
Epithelioid sarcoma (ES), first described by Enzinger in 1970, is a rare mesenchymal neoplasm that typically affects the distal extremities of adolescents and young adults (distal or classic type). It has a marked tendency for local recurrence and, ultimately, metastasis. Clinically, ES may mimic inflammatory dermatoses or cutaneous infections. We report an unusual case of ES in an elderly woman, presenting in a manner clinically suggestive of prurigo nodularis.
