The article reports the use of aqueous solutions for lithium extraction in Irkutsk, suggesting innovative industrial applications may emerge.
The article shows, using the example of cooperation between business and academic and applied science, how the problem of industrial development of unconventional hydromineral lithium-bearing raw material sources in the form of deep polycomponent lithium-bearing brines of the calcium-magnesium chloride type, which occur in the depths of the sedimentary cover of the Irkutsk region, can be solved. The prospects of isolating lithium from lithium-bearing brines of this type in the form of aqueous solutions of its chloride by using a lithium chloride-selective sorbent based on the defective structure of the LiCl·2Al (OH)·mHO compound are substantiated. The main stages of long-term fundamental and applied research are described, which made it possible to bring the created scientific groundwork to industrial implementation in the Russian Federation. Associated and formation waters of the Irkutsk Oil Company are used as a raw material base.
