Scoping review highlights implementation and sustainability factors for new psychosocial support roles, suggesting improved training and mentorship for success.
There is a need for greater attention to role clarity and boundary working during the design phase of roles and as an aspect of environmental preparedness, especially with MDT members. The provision of training specific to new roles, and support in the form of mentorship, are necessary to develop the required skills and confidence in new role holders. Given the considerable heterogeneity in the aims and objectives of research on new psychosocial roles not affiliated to a profession or discipline an absence of studies focusing on the determinants of the implementation, integration, and sustainability of these roles, more research is needed to support their future implementation.
