Observational analysis identifies transgressive segregants for grain yield in soybean, implying potential for improved genetic advancement.
AbstractYield and its component traits were studied in 181 F5 progenies, derived from a cross of NRCSL 3 x NRC 142, in an augmented RCBD, with 5 check genotypes to identify transgressive segregants for yield traits. Substantial variation for all the traits, except seeds per pod, was documented. High estimates of genotypic coefficient of variation, phenotypic coefficient of variation, heritability and genetic advance were recorded for pods per plant, biological yield, and economic yield. Transgressive segregants, surpassing the best checks, were observed for all the agronomic traits. Progenies 20-3-784-1 and 20-3-1557 outyielded the best check for biological yield, economic yield, harvest index and 100-seed weight. Around 80% of the progenies manifested resistance against Yellow Mosaic Disease (YMD). The results reinforce the utility of hybridization in generation of promising genotypes having high biological and economic yields, and improved genetic potential.
