Analysis shows increased dielectric properties in nematic liquid crystals with MgO nanoparticles, indicating potential for enhanced display technologies.
The temperature‐dependent physical properties of magnesium oxide nanoparticles dispersed in 5CB (4‐Cyano‐4′‐pentylbiphenyl) nematic liquid crystal is summarized. The uniform dispersion of magnesium oxide nanoparticles was observed through polarizing optical microscopy (POM). The birefringence values of 5CB LC‐ magnesium oxide nanocomposite are observed to be greater than pure 5CB LC due to the improved order parameter measured through Abbe's refractometer. Nyquist plot is analyzed for all the samples and is correlated to the conductivity. Dielectric permittivity, dielectric loss, and phase angle were investigated. Relaxation frequency and response time was measured and prominent reduction in response time was observed with an increase in MgO nanoparticle concentration. The rapid shift in the switching speed and improved optical performances make its way in the display devices, smart displays, and energy‐saving devices.
