Peri-implant diseases refer to a set of inflammatory conditions that develop around dental implants. These include peri-implant mucositis, which is characterized by reversible inflammation of the surrounding soft tissues, and peri-implantitis, a more severe condition marked by ongoing inflammation and progressive loss of supporting bone.These conditions are primarily linked to microbial plaque and risk factors such as poor oral hygiene, smoking, and a history of periodontitis.With the growing use of dental implants, their prevalence is rising. Early detection—based on bleeding on probing, probing depth, radiograph, and newer methods like biomarkers, salivary diagnostics, and digital imaging—is vital. Management involves mechanical debridement, antimicrobial therapy, surgical intervention, and strict maintenance protocols. This review outlines the diagnostic features, clinical presentation, and contemporary treatment strategies, emphasizing recent advances in detection and management.
