Hospital Readmission After Traumatic Brain Injury Hospitalization in Community‐Dwelling Older Adults

Among older adults with a traumatic brain injury, hospital readmission rates were lower than those with non-TBI hospitalizations after the first year.
Follow-up lasted from the index hospitalization in 1987 through December 31, 2019, with median follow-up periods of 2.7 and 3.1 years subsequent to TBI and orthopedic injuries, respectively.
Propensity score matching was used to compare readmission rates across different hospitalization causes, including TBI and orthopedic injuries.
These results highlight the need for focused interventions in the first year post-hospitalization to assist those recovering from TBI.
