Editorial highlights increased adoption of uterine transplantation for infertility, indicating its viability as a treatment option.
( Acta Obstet Gynecol Scand . 2025 Mar;104(3):434-436. doi: 10.1111/aogs.15080) In 2014, a child was born from a transplanted uterus, marking the first known occasion of this success. This event established that transplantation of the uterus (uterine transplantation, or UTx) is a viable treatment for absolute uterine factor infertility, which can affect up to 1 in 500 women. Since that first occasion, more than 70 children globally have been born using UTx, and more than 130 UTx procedures have been performed. This article is an editorial describing the history and impact of UTx procedures since this first success, as well as encouragement for future improvements.
