Case report shows significant hair regrowth in alopecia totalis after Ayurveda therapy, suggesting its effectiveness.
Alopecia is a significant growing concern among the generation of middle age group. Alopecia Totalis (AT) is defined as the loss of all skull and facial hair. Here is case report of a 36-year-old female patient who presented with whole-body hair loss, diagnosed with AT, underwent Ayurveda modalities as a black box design. The management included Shamana chikitsa (~palliative therapy) and Shodhana chikitsa (~purificatory therapy) involving Pratimarsha nasya (~low-dose medication through the nasal route), Nitya virechana (~therapeutic purgation on a daily basis) with Trivrit avaleha and Shiroabhyanga (~therapeutic application of oil on the scalp) with Dhaturadi taila . The diagnostic tool used was the Severity of Alopecia Tool, which was 100 before treatment, indicating 100% hair loss at the scalp, which significantly reduced to 0 after 20 months of Ayurveda management. There is a significant improvement inferring the promising role of Ayurveda approach as a safe and effective solution for the management of the disease.
