Fabrication of PbS/CdS/TiO2 nanocomposite improved photocathodic protection, suggesting enhanced photoelectrochemical properties.
The ternary stepped heterojunction PbS/CdS/TiO2 was fabricated by successive ionic layer adsorption and reaction (SILAR), significantly enhancing the photocathodic protection properties of TiO2. Experimental results demonstrate the superiority of dual loading modification over single-loading modification. Co-loading CdS and PbS resulted in a TiO2 nanocomposite with a reduced bandgap width of 1.0 eV, a further extended light absorption range, and enhanced visible light utilization efficiency. The PbS/CdS/TiO2 electrode exhibited a photogenerated current density of 6.46 mA·cm-2 , representing a 1.6 times and 22.1 times increase compared to PbS/TiO2 and TiO2. The dual-loaded metal sulfide semiconductors markedly improve the photoelectrochemical properties of TiO2 and its photocathodic protection effect.
