Demonstrates improvements in first-pass intubation success rates in critical care, suggesting better airway management strategies are essential.
Airway management is commonly performed in the critical care setting yet can be one of the most stressful tasks that clinicans carry out. Successful completion of invasive airway maneuvers can have a profound impact on patient outcomes. Timely and effective airway management strategies, initial and ongoing skills development, and the use of appropriate equipment and protocols improve first-pass intubation success rates. In situations in which intubation is unsuccessful and the patient cannot be adequately oxygenated, alternative surgical airways may be necessary.
