ABSTRACT Current‐ripple‐based control techniques are widely used in continuous conduction mode (CCM) single‐inductor dual‐output (SIDO) dc‐dc converters due to their advantages of fast dynamic performance and minimized cross‐regulation. However, they suffer the restrictions of limited load range. To overcome these restrictions, this paper proposes a voltage‐ripple‐based (VR) variable‐frequency (VF) control technique for a CCM SIDO buck converter, which has the advantages of a wide load range with or without compensators in the control loop. Compared with the traditional VR control techniques, the proposed VR‐VF control technique has no parasitic resistor limited to output capacitor, which can work stably with ceramic capacitor. The operation characteristics, design considerations, stability, and dynamic performance of the proposed control technique are analyzed. Finally, the simulations and experimental verifications were conducted to verify the proposed VR‐VF control.
