Review reveals strong links between space exploration, economics, and technological innovation, suggesting significant economic impact.
The interdisciplinary connection between astronomy and economics reveals profound interrelationships, even though they appear disparate—particularly in the context of space exploration, technological advancements, and economic growth. The objective of this review is to explore the symbiotic relationship between these two fields, the economic impact of astronomical discoveries, historical trends, and the future potential of space-related economic activities. Standard economic principles such as resource scarcity, transaction costs, externalities, and economies of scale apply to space, but new adaptations will be necessary, especially in financial transactions, institutional design, and market structures. We conducted a careful examination of literature from various authors and scientists. In this review, we explain how investments in astronomy encourage technological innovation, stimulate economic growth, and contribute to a broader understanding of the universe. From understanding economic trends through celestial data to examining the impact of space exploration on the global economy, we highlight the remarkable connections between astronomical science and financial systems. With the help of figures and tables in this review, it is concluded that increases in space exploration contribute to the development of human communities and the environment. The results also indicate that people benefit from the bridge between these interdisciplinary subjects—astronomy and economics— and for this reason, the yearly number of satellite launches has increased.
