Observational analysis shows plasma impacts electron beam characteristics, suggesting potential for increased limiting current.
The effect of plasma in a plasma microwave source on the parameters of the injected electron beam is considered. The degree of neutralization of the volumetric charge of the beam by the induced charge in the plasma associated with the escape of some electrons from the plasma is determined. The limiting current of the electron beam is calculated, which generalizes the well-known formula for the vacuum limiting current, and when the beam is located near the plasma, there are no limitations on the transported current. When the electron beam is located near or outside the plasma, the electron deceleration associated with the braking potential is insignificant.
