The increasing demand for environmentally friendly materials within the pharmaceutical industry has shown that, in contrast to traditional synthetic materials, biodegradable, biocompatible, and nontoxic eco-friendly plastics are the best alternatives. This is a comprehensive bibliometric overview of global research output across multiple disciplines within the scope of eco-friendly polymers, as captured by the Scopus database. The key contributors, leading institutions, and major funding agencies are identified as paramount in shaping this research landscape. Results show that the majority of academic output occurs in countries such as India and China, particularly in fields such as materials science, chemistry, and engineering, which have higher shares of publications. Dominant trends in the research occur in areas of sustainable and clean technologies, as well as in the disciplines of polymer science, environmental science, and energy. The analysis also tracks the exponential growth in research output starting from 2016, peaking in 2024, with an accelerating increase in the number of published papers. Through collaborative activity, research topics, and sources of funding, this investigation highlights the major driving factors for the increase in scientific output while emphasizing the interdisciplinary nature of current research.
