This project explores comedy's pedagogical impact in culture and interdisciplinary education through performances of Lysistrata.
This article presents the extension project “Cia Teatral Ato Histórico: culture and education in motion”, developed through a partnership between the History course at the Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul (UFMS) in Três Lagoas and the Federal Institute of Mato Grosso do Sul (IFMS). The project focused on the staging of the Greek comedy Lysistrata, by Aristophanes, funded by the Aldir Blanc Law (PNAB), with support from the Municipality of Três Lagoas and the State Cultural Foundation of Mato Grosso do Sul. Beyond a theatrical exercise, the initiative established a pedagogical practice grounded in aesthetic experience, collaborative learning, and interdisciplinarity between History, Art, Geography, Philosophy, and Literature. The article discusses the training process, thematic workshops, set design, actors’ preparation, and the pedagogical and cultural impact of the performances in Três Lagoas and Campo Grande. It argues that laughter and comedy function as critical tools for interpreting the ancient world and reflecting upon the present.
