The Hierarchy of Childhood Needs (HCN) Theory offers a developmentally grounded framework for promoting resilience and well-being in children and adolescents. Adapted from Maslow's motivational model, it organizes five interrelated tiers—physiological and safety, connection and attachment, self-soothing and grounding, academic and vocational, and hope and future aspirations—that describe how secure foundations enable higher growth. To support practical use, the Hierarchy of Childhood Needs–Color Profile (HCN-CP) translates children's perceptions into actionable insights for caregivers, paraprofessionals, educators, and clinicians. Together, the HCN Theory and Color Profile provide a collaborative roadmap for identifying unmet needs, strengthening relationships, and guiding interventions that foster both immediate stability and long-term developmental success across home, school, and community settings.
