Multicomponent synthesis improves yields of N-arylquinolines using visible light in an environmentally benign manner.
This easy, efficient protocol employs a green, metal‐free multicomponent strategy for the rapid synthesis of N ‐arylquinolines under visible‐light irradiation. The one‐pot reaction between aromatic aldehydes, 5,5‐dimethyl‐3‐(phenylamino)cyclohex‐2‐en‐1‐one (enaminone), and malononitrile or ethyl cyanoacetate proceeds smoothly in ethanol under blue LED irradiation (12 W) at room temperature, affording excellent yields within 2–3 h. The use of visible light as a clean energy source eliminates the need for thermal heating or metal catalysts, highlighting an environmentally benign and energy‐efficient route to biologically relevant N ‐arylquinolines.
