Abstract In the field of civil engineering, high-pressure jet grout is an effective method for foundation construction through soil improvement. This technology is based on the theory of turbulent jets and takes into account the effect of soil particle size distribution on shear strength, thus proposing an innovative calculation method for the diameter of high-pressure jet grouting piles. The diameter of jet grouting piles is not only related to the soil conditions at the construction site but also greatly influenced by the setting parameters during the jet grouting process. The cutting effect of high-pressure slurry defines a critical cutting distance, which can essentially be considered as the actual radius of the jet grouting pile. This method establishes a correlation between the radius of jet grouting piles and soil conditions, as well as the jet grouting parameters by combining the theory of turbulent jets with the analysis of soil particle grading, focusing on the influence of the soil particle grading on the results. Furthermore, through comparison with the measured values of the diameter of the high-pressure jet grouting pile on field, the effectiveness and practicality of this calculation method have been confirmed. Finally, the Taguchi method was used to analyze the level of influence of various factors on the pile diameter, and it was found that jet velocity and nozzle diameter have a significant impact on the pile diameter. This method accurately predicts the pile diameter of jet grouting piles, and the influence of jet parameters on the diameter is analyzed, which can provide reference for construction design.
