The graying of America has resulted in a burgeoning population of senior adults. According to data by the federal government, the percentage of population older than 83 years of age represented only 0.2% in 1990 and is projected to represent 4% by the year 2040. Senior Americans between 65 and 84 years of age represented approximately 4% of the population in ]990 and 11% of the population in the year 2000 and are projected to represent 17% of the population in 2040. These seniors can and do experience catastrophic accidents that benefit from life care planning assessment and service delivery.
