Archaeological monitoring reveals no significant finds in Kenilworth, indicating minimal impact on historic site.
An archaeological monitoring and recording project was carried out on behalf of Warwick District Council during works to improve access from Forest Road to a proposed new events space in Abbey Fields, Kenilworth. The work was carried out in accordance with the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists' Standard for archaeological monitoring and recording (2023a) and Universal guidance for archaeological monitoring and recording (2023b). The archaeological monitoring recorded no archaeological features or deposits within the area of the revised access to the Events Space. In the event, the very limited works undertaken were not substantial enough to expose or disturb any surviving archaeological remains even if they were present. Furthermore, the preceding geophysical survey did not reveal any archaeological potential, but it did record an area of probable made ground associated with landscaping in this part of the Abbey Fields. Therefore, the works have had no impact on any archaeological remains or the Scheduled Monument.
