An archaeological watching brief reveals little evidence of past settlement during cycling facility development.
An archaeological watching brief was carried out on behalf of Warwick District Council during the development of new cycling facilities at The Old Golf Shop and Golf Course, Newbold Comyn in an area of possible medieval settlement. The work was carried out in accordance with the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists standard and guidance for an archaeological watching brief (2020). Two post-medieval or modern deposits of dumped material, presumably laid to level up hollows were observed, but no significant archaeological features or finds were uncovered. The shallow depth of most of the trail meant that the construction had no impact beyond the topsoil and subsoil. In the areas where the natural geology was reached, there were no archaeological features or deposits observed.
