Purpose Although numerous studies have assessed the adoption of e-procurement systems, a crucial gap exists in comprehending why organizations, after adoption, show different levels of utilization and generate varying degrees of effectiveness. The purpose of this paper is to extend the DeLone and McLean’s Information Systems Success Model (ISSM) was extended with communication quality, decision quality and knowledge acquisition to understand the antecedents and outcomes of e-procurement usage. Design/methodology/approach The study employed the quantitative method to examine the proposed model. The survey method was used to collect data from 120 procurement officers in Ghanaian manufacturing firms. Findings Findings showed that information quality, service quality, system quality and user satisfaction significantly promote e-procurement usage. Also, e-procurement enhances communication quality and decision quality, but e-procurement usage negatively affects knowledge acquisition. Practical implications The outcome of the study presents valuable insights for manufacturing organizations and enterprises to successfully navigate through the implementation of e-procurement. Originality/value This study proposes a unique framework by extending the ISSM. The framework helps us to have a practical and academic understanding by augmenting the comprehension of technology adoption.
