Descriptive model outlines kimberlite formation phases in diamond-rich regions, suggesting evaluation strategies.
Based on study of 22 kimberlite bodies, a geological-genetic descriptive model of a typical kimberlite pipe from the Daldyn-Alakit diamondiferous region has been derived. It reflects a single sequence of formation, relationship of different types of kimberlite rocks and common morphological features of the terrains made up of them. The scheme of kimberlite formation implies an intrusive phase and a volcanic phase, the latter being subdivided into explosive, extrusive, and properly magmatic phases, whose variable ratio explains the variety of kimberlite volcanism manifestations in the region. The above considerations are recommended to be applied for evaluating diamond concentrations in deep-seated horizons of known and new kimberlite bodies.
