Description This paper introduces and develops the concept of chronocontextual epistemic injustice, a structural distortion in how epistemic credit is assigned in science and philosophy. Standard evaluative practices treat temporal priority as a decisive criterion of epistemic value, systematically devaluing independent rediscoveries once a result is known to have been achieved earlier. In doing so, they ignore the radically different cognitive, educational, and institutional contexts under which agents arrive at identical results. The paper argues that epistemic achievement cannot be reduced to propositional content plus temporal ordering. Two agents who converge on the same theorem, argument, or conceptual framework may nevertheless differ profoundly in contextual privilege and inferential labor. By flattening these differences, prevailing norms erase the epistemic work performed by agents who reconstruct results under disadvantaged conditions, including independent researchers, autodidacts, and scholars operating outside well-resourced institutions. To make this distortion visible, the paper proposes a diagnostic, multi-dimensional model of epistemic credit that distinguishes between content achieved, temporal position, contextual resources, and inferential path. Drawing on insights from social epistemology and theories of extended cognition, it shows how access to cognitive infrastructure fundamentally alters the structure and difficulty of epistemic tasks. The analysis is extended to historical cases of independent reconstruction, contemporary research practices, and debates surrounding AI-assisted cognition. The paper concludes by arguing for epistemic equity: a revision of evaluative norms that aligns epistemic credit with the actual structure of epistemic labor, without abandoning the value of novelty or temporal priority.
