The Coastal and Marine Ecological Classification Standard (CMECS) is the U.S. recommended national standard for interpreting and classifying environmental data in coastal, marine, and lacustrine systems. CMECS has recently been converted from legacy formats into a FAIR vocabulary to ensure its discoverability and use in other applications. Its content is also being updated with key enhancements that support new data collection and analysis technologies, and additional ecological units. New resources, created to support the Findability, Accessibility, Interoperability, and Reuse of the CMECS Catalog of Units, are highlighted.
