Background: Organoid technology has achieved a series of pivotal breakthroughs in the early 21st century, driving innovation across life sciences and medicine, and contributing significantly to advancements in human health and medical technologies. This cross-sectional bibliometric analysis aims to examine the development of organoid research from 2000 to 2024. Methods: Literature data were collected on 6 December 2024 and downloaded in plain text from the Science Citation Index Expanded database. Comprehensive bibliometric mapping and analysis were performed using VOSviewer to visualize research networks and thematic developments. Results: In this study, 16 158 organoid publications were retrieved from the SCIE database. There were only 100 organoid studies in 2000, and from 2015 onward, the number of annual publications on this topic began to proliferate, reaching 11 747 from 2019 to 2024, accounting for 72.70% of the total number of publications. The United States ranked first worldwide in both the number of publications and total citations. Among the leading institutions, Harvard University and the University of Washington were among the most prolific. Hans Clevers collaborated with 230 prolific authors and has the most publications. With the use of organoids in cancer modeling, drug screening, and regenerative medicine, organoid technology has attracted much attention in biomedical research, and the significant increase in the number of published papers and citations signifies the expanding influence and global collaboration in the field of organoid research. Conclusion: This study contributes to the understanding of current trends and potential future advances by identifying five distinct clusters in the field.
