Research investigates low-temperature methane conversion in an electric field, indicating efficient C2 production.
Oxidative coupling of methane reaction in an electric field at low temperatures was investigated using alkaline-earth-metal-cation-doped LaAlO3 perovskite catalysts. Results demonstrate that reaction activity depends on the amount of surface oxygen species on the perovskite phase, which are activated by direct current applied to the catalysts and function as active sites, selectively promoting C2 production rather than the complete oxidation of methane.
