This review outlines phase diagrams of transition metals under extreme conditions, suggesting avenues for future research.
The study of transition metals under extreme pressure and temperature conditions is currently a hot research topic, in which important progress has been made during the last few years. However, there are still many open questions that continue to attract the attention of researchers. Here we present a systematic review of recent studies on the high-pressure and high-temperature phase diagrams of the late transition metals Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Ru, Rh, Pd, Ag, Os, Ir, Pt, and Au. The review methodically outlines and analyzes the most recent experimental and computational findings with the aim of presenting a systematic understanding of the high-pressure and high-temperature behavior of the metals listed above. A report of unresolved issues is also provided, along with suggestions for potential directions for future research.
