Shows a model-independent bound on fermion generations, suggesting implications for theoretical physics.
We show that the number of fermion generations is constrained by spectral–geometric principles andsatisfies the strict, model–independent bound Ngen ≤ 3. This result follows from the combination oftwo theorem–level bounds and a dynamical injectivity principle derived from the spectral action. First, the KO–dimension 6 finite algebraAF =C⊕H⊕M3(C)admits exactly three minimal central idempotents, and therefore at most three inequivalent fermionicsectors. Second, the effective spectral potential Veff(ρ) induced by the spectral action is a stable sexticpolynomial whose derivative admits at most three positive roots, implying the existence of at mostthree local minima in the physical interval. We then introduce a dynamical Spectral Exclusion Principle(SEP), derived from spectral action minimization under explicit regularity assumptions, which enforcesa one–to–one correspondence between vacuum minima of Veff(ρ) and fermionic sectors. Together, theseingredients imply the rigorous bound Ngen ≤ 3. The realization Ngen = 3 is obtained conditionally: ifVeff(ρ) lies in the triple–well regime and exhibits three non–degenerate local minima in ρ ∈ (0,1), thenSEP forces a distinct fermionic sector to occupy each minimum, yielding Ngen = 3. For the StandardModel spectral triple, we compute the relevant Seeley–DeWitt coefficients and verify that they fall inthe triple–well region, so that Ngen = 3 is dynamically realized. We further show that this realization isradiatively stable at one loop and compatible with standard unification features. The framework suggestsadditional phenomenological directions (e.g. neutrino masses and cosmological signatures), which liebeyond the scope of the present analysis.
