This review summarizes recent improvements in double C–H bond functionalization using hydride shifts, indicating important innovations in synthetic chemistry.
C–H bond functionalization is one of the major research topics in modern synthetic organic chemistry. Although various reactions have been developed over the past decades, reports on the functionalization of two C–H bonds in one pot, namely, the double C–H bond functionalization, are limited. The double functionalization of the highly inert C(sp3)–H bond presents a difficult challenge. In this review, we summarize recent advances in sequential hydride shift-mediated C(sp3)–H bond functionalization.
