This article examines the contribution of Mufti, diplomat, orientalist, and Islamic scholar Shamsuddin Babakhanov during the critical socio-political period when the former Soviet system was collapsing and Uzbekistan was approaching independence. The study highlights his significant role in promoting national ideals such as social unity, interethnic harmony, and religious tolerance. In addition, the article analyzes Babakhanov’s diplomatic activities, through which he contributed to the international recognition of independent Uzbekistan on the global stage.
