Research evaluates economic incentives for crop producers supporting hail suppression, suggesting increased adoption benefits.
Changnon and Morgan, in a recent issue of this journal, review a number of past hail suppression efforts as to the effectiveness of these efforts in reducing hail and/or altering rainfall. In addition, they specify future scenarios and an associated level of hail suppression effectiveness for each scenario. The research reported in that paper was part of a 15 month technology assessment of hail suppression in the United States. Another component of that multidisciplinary effort was an evaluation of the economic incentive for farmers in different regions of the nation to support the adoption of hail suppression. The results of that evaluation are reported in this paper.
