Demonstrates an efficient photochemical method for alkene modification using thioxanthone, suggesting potential for widespread application in organic synthesis.
The atom transfer radical additions (ATRA) are useful organic transformations for the difunctionalization of alkenes. Herein, we report a cheap and efficient photochemical method utilizing thioxanthone as the photocatalyst for the anti ‐Markovnikov addition of N ‐chloro‐tosylamides on a variety of unactivated olefins, leading to the corresponding difunctionalized products bearing a chlorine and a nitrogen‐containing moiety in good to high yields under household fluorescent light bulb irradiation.
