Taxonomic study identifies Tricholomopsis habibii sp. nov. in Swat District, indicating new fungal biodiversity.
Tricholomopsis habibii sp. nov. has been described and illustrated, based on collections made from the Swat District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. This species differs from Tricholomopsis badinensis by its large (70–100 mm), dull brown to pale yellow pileus with a flattened umbo, lacrymoid to ellipsoid, oblong in side view basidiospores, and small (39.9–51.7 × 6.9–8. μm) cheilocystidia. The nuclear ribosomal internal transcribed spacer region and a portion of the nuclear ribosomal large subunit (28S) of this species were sequenced and analyzed which confirmed the identity of T. habibii as a new taxon.
