The artistic processes of the past centuries, which took place in the Russian province and had a significant impact on the formation of its cultural life, are currently insufficiently studied. This information is necessary to create a holistic view of the development of Russian art in various historical eras. In line with the above, the conducted research seems to be significant and relevant. It will contribute to the process of forming a complete picture of Russian culture. The purpose of this article is to analyze the exhibition and educational initiative of the Association of Traveling Art Exhibitions in Kaluga province from 1899 to 1905. The subject of this research is the historical and cultural process of organizing and local peculiarities of exhibitions of artists-peredvizhniki, held in the Kaluga region in the late XIX – early XX centuries. In order to reveal the topic, the author uses the cultural-historical, theoretical-analytical method and the method of comparative analysis. Based on the archival materials of the GAKO and the Department of Manuscripts of the State Tretyakov Gallery, which are being introduced into scientific circulation for the first time, the details of the organization of exhibitions of Peredvizhniki in the Kaluga province in the late 19th and early 20th centuries are revealed. In addition, the author identified the initiator of this significant event for the Kaluga region, as well as analyzed the publications of art criticism in the local press of the period under study, which made it possible to clarify the factual features of the TPHV's activities in the province, the attitude of the Kaluga public towards it and its educational role in society. The article concludes that the exhibition and educational campaign of the Peredvizhniki had an important historical and artistic significance for the artistic life of Kaluga, becoming one of the factors activating the further cultural development of the region.
