Field trial evaluates fungicide effectiveness for controlling leaf blight in onions, suggesting improved management strategies.
Botrytis leaf blight and Stemphylium leaf blight, caused by Botrytis squamosa and Stemphylium vesicarium, respectively, are common leaf diseases of dry bulb onion (Allium cepa) in the ‘muck’ soil production regions of New York. These diseases cause leaf spotting and leaf dieback that may reduce bulb size and quality, and yield. The objective of this trial was to identify fungicide programs for the best disease control with emphasis on understanding the efficacy of individual treatments and frequency/timing of using FRAC P07 fungicides on disease control and plant health. The results of this trial will inform fungicide management strategies for Botrytis and Stemphylium leaf blight diseases in onion.
