Numerical simulations analyze airflow around high-rise buildings, indicating implications for urban planning.
Details of the wind environment around high-rise buildings and the wind load acting on them vary with complex factors such as the shape and height of buildings. In this study, four RANS turbulence models are employed to analyze the airflow and streamlines around the target high-rise building, with comparisons made to wind tunnel test results of the standard high-rise building model (i.e., the CAARC building). Through these comparisons, the feasibility and accuracy of the models are evaluated. This paper demonstrates that the RNG k-ε model is suitable for numerical simulations of the wind environment around the target high-rise building. Numerical simulations are also conducted under different wind direction angles. The findings indicate that airflow around specific high-rise buildings must be considered in urban planning and structural design to achieve a favorable flow environment, which in turn contributes to improved energy efficiency and more stable structural responses.
