Case report shows early diagnosis of gas embolism in laparoscopic surgery, indicating critical implications for surgical safety.
Objective: Laparoscopic surgery has become popular in various areas in recent years. Although laparoscopic surgery is minimally invasive, there is a risk of complications specific to laparoscopy, one of which is gas embolus associated with pneumoperitoneum, which is a serious complication. Case Report: Here, we have reported a case of gas embolism that presented with acute circulatory failure during laparoscopic bilateral ovarian cystectomy, which was diagnosed early because of a decrease in end-tidal CO 2 partial pressure (EtCO 2 ). Conclusion: Sudden decrease in SpO 2 , EtCO 2, and blood pressure during laparoscopic surgery by the pneumoperitoneum induction procedure requires rapid response with gas embolism in mind.
