Case study examines asphalt overlay schemes to rehabilitate pavement distresses, indicating effective strategies.
In municipal road construction, the rehabilitation of various pavement distresses is a key content. In this paper, the “white plus black” technology was studied, several asphalt concrete layer overlay schemes were designed, and the flexural loading test was carried out to understand which scheme has better performance. Moreover, the interface layer material between the overlay layer and the original pavement was compared, and the effect of different materials on the reflection crack was analyzed through a fatigue test. The results showed that among the several schemes, the strength of scheme IV was the best, and the maximum damage load reached 33.58 ± 1.31 kN. Among the several interface layer materials, the anti-cracking tape had the best effect of delaying the reflection crack and showed good results in flexural tensile and shear fatigue tests. The obtained optimal scheme was applied to the actual project. Six months later, it was found that the smoothness and water seepage coefficient of the road surface met the technical requirements. The results show that the designed scheme is reliable in pavement distress rehabilitation and can be applied in practice.
